With over 15 years of experience as a music educator, I’m committed to creating a fun and customized learning environment for musicians of all ages.  My top priority as a teacher is to create life long musicians. Every student has a unique learning style and pace, so I tailor my teaching around those ideas.  I build an individualized approach for each student, based around the music they love.  If your student likes listening to Taylor Swift, then we will find a way to play some Taylor songs and adapt them for any skill level.  If you're more of a fan of indie rock, we can learn the guitar parts to the Lumineers or Radiohead.

Many of the technical aspects of playing an instrument can be taught through many different styles of music.  In addition to teaching the technical aspects of playing an instrument; I find it essential to introduce elements of music theory, improvisation and ear training.  All of these musical fundamentals can be taught across various genres and styles of music, allowing for students to choose much of the music they learn. Above all, playing a musical instrument should be fun!

I started teaching drum lessons when I was in high school, where I taught a few middle schoolers the basics of playing rock music on the drum set.  Back then, I had no clue how important sharing my passion for music would become.  When I got to college, I started teaching a few high school drumlines and decided to study both music performance and education.  Since then I’ve worked in classrooms in public and private elementary, middle and high schools around Washington and Iowa.  I currently work as the percussion coach at Mountlake Terrace High School, where I lead the drumline and percussion ensemble. I’ve also taught thousands of private music lessons over the last ten years in the Seattle area.
